Where is the camp located?
Summer Adventures is located on 14 beautiful, tree-lined acres on the campus of The Hockessin Montessori School in Suburban New Castle County, Delaware.
Are there registration fees or deposits required?
There is a $25 non-refundable registration fee per family due at the time of registration. A $100 deposit is required for each session and/or week of camp for which a child is registered. The deposit is applied to the camp balance.
Are the deposits refundable?
Deposits are refundable up until May 1st. After this date, deposits may be transferred to other camp sessions, however, are not refundable.
What are the staff-to-camper ratios?
Ratios differ depending upon the ages of the campers.
- Young Pioneers - 4 to 1
- Young Explorers - 6 to 1
- Summer Adventurers - 8 to 1
- Summer Blazers - 10 to 1
How much time is spent outdoors?
Unlike most camps, we have a wonderful indoor facility where each camp group has their own room and personal storage area. We do spend a lot of time outside, but have the luxury of a gymnasium and classrooms.
Do you accept credit card payments?
Unfortunately, we do not.
What are the hours of camp operation?
The hours for Before Camp Care are from 7:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. The camp sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. After Camp Care runs from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
How often do the campers swim?
Swimming time varies depending upon the age group. Young Pioneers and Young Explorers have water play and swim time every day on campus using our smaller pools. Summer Adventurers and Summer Blazers swim offsite at least twice a week for 2 hours each time.
When does registration begin?
Registration begins on February 1st, and is ongoing until the camp session begins, or until enrollment in the camp is full.
How do I register?
You can mail your registration along with your deposit and registration fee, or you may bring it to The Hockessin Montessori School.
Is snack provided?
A morning snack is provided, as well as a late afternoon snack for those campers who attend Aftercare.
Are lunches provided?
Unfortunately lunches are not provided. However campers are allowed to bring in lunches that require a heat-up, as opposed to the traditional sandwich. We provide refrigerators where all of our lunches are stored, so ice packs are not a necessity.
What training do the camp counselors receive?
All staff is trained in CPR and First Aid. They also receive over 16 hours of training in creative thinking, policies and procedures of the camp, rainy day activities, security and release procedures of the camp, field trip procedures, parent relations, Code of Conduct (disciplinary procedures), and expectations.
What is your sick policy?
Summer Adventures adheres to the policies that if a child is sent home for an illness of any kind, they are allowed to return to camp after 24 hours of being symptom free.
